About this service

Partition walls done properly

A partition wall is the quickest way to change how a building works. Split a large bedroom in two, create an en-suite, wall off a home office or lay out a full floor of offices and corridors. Lightweight stud partitions go up fast, keep weight off the structure and are easy to upgrade for sound and fire.

We set every wall out from lasered lines, fix head and floor track securely, and space the studs at the right centres for the board and the specification. Door openings get proper heads and jambs, and we add timber noggins or plywood backing wherever you'll hang a TV, radiator, basin or kitchen units, so nothing pulls out later.

Whether it's a single stud wall in a family home in Sudbury or hundreds of metres of metal stud on a commercial job in Chelmsford, you get the same standard: plumb, square and ready for skim or tape and joint.

FAQs

Partition walls: your questions

How long does it take to put up a stud wall?

A typical single stud wall in a house is framed and boarded in a day or two. Larger layouts depend on the size and spec, and we'll give you a realistic programme with your quote.

Metal or timber stud: which is better?

Metal stud is straighter, lighter and doesn't warp, so it's our first choice for most walls and all commercial work. Timber is useful for smaller domestic walls. We'll recommend the best option when we survey.

Can I hang a TV or kitchen units on a stud wall?

Yes. We add timber noggins or full plywood backing where heavy items will go, so you can fix them securely. Just tell us where they'll be before we board.

Do partition walls need building regulations approval?

Many internal partitions don't, but walls that affect fire escape, sound between dwellings or structure can. We build to the right tested system and can work alongside your builder or building control.
