Suspended ceilings done properly
An MF suspended ceiling is a hidden metal grid hung from the structure, with plasterboard screwed underneath. Once it's taped and skimmed it looks like a traditional plastered ceiling, but it's perfectly level, even when the joists or slab above aren't.
The void above is the real advantage. It hides pipes, cables and ductwork, makes it easy to drop the ceiling height, and gives space for insulation, acoustic quilt or extra fire protection. Lights, access hatches and level changes are all set out as we go.
We install MF ceilings in homes, barn conversions, flats, offices and commercial units across Suffolk and Essex, from a single room to whole floors.
The benefits of suspended ceilings
Level finish
Hides sagging or uneven soffits behind a perfectly flat new ceiling.
Services hidden
Pipes, cables and ductwork disappear into the void, with access where you need it.
Fire protection
Fire-rated boards to tested systems for flats, HMOs and commercial buildings.
Quieter rooms
Add acoustic quilt and sound-rated boards to stop noise travelling between floors.
Systems we install
We'll recommend the right build-up for your budget and the performance you need when we survey, free of charge.
| System | Best for | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Standard MF ceiling | Homes, conversions, offices | Seamless plasterboard finish with a service void |
| Fire-rated MF | Flats, HMOs, commercial | Fire-line boards to the required fire resistance |
| Acoustic MF | Between floors, cinemas, offices | Acoustic quilt and sound-rated boards |
| Lowered / dropped ceiling | High rooms, hiding ductwork | Set to any height, with bulkheads and rafts |

Suspended ceilings: your questions
What's an MF ceiling?
MF stands for metal furring. It's a lightweight steel grid hung from the structure, with plasterboard fixed beneath. It gives a flat, seamless ceiling that's ready to skim or tape and joint.
How far can you drop a ceiling?
Almost any depth. We use hangers and primary channels to set the new ceiling exactly where you want it, from a few centimetres below the old one to well below ductwork.
Can you fit downlights and access hatches?
Yes. We set out light positions, vents and access panels as we build, and can frame around fittings so your electrician has an easy job.
Is an MF ceiling better than overboarding?
If the existing ceiling is uneven, sagging or full of services, yes. An MF ceiling is independent and perfectly level. Overboarding just follows the old surface.
